A high-level Slovak delegation headed by the Slovak Parliament Speaker Pavol Paska paid a five-day visit to explore possibilities to attract investments from India.
The delegation nad meetings with Indian business chambers in Delhi and Chennai to hardsell the country and discuss ways in which economic cooperation could be raised.
Slovak Ambassador Alexander Ilascik said that the economic reforms, initiated in his country about a decade back, have started bearing fruits creating scope for investments from abroad.
In these conditions, he said Indian companies had the opportunity to invest in Slovakia which is in the heart of Europe and can provide a base for operations in the 27-nation bloc. Indo-Slovak bilateral trade stood at meagre USD 212 million last year although it had tripled over the last five years.
Ilascik said that the main reason for this low bilateral trade is that the two countries had not really paid attention to the potential. Slovakia is particularly keen in attracting Indian investment in the IT sector.
